Case Study: Insure on the Spot
Client
Insure on the Spot is an independent car insurance agency that has been helping Chicago and Illinois residents find the right policies that fit their budgets and driving needs since 1986. They compare a network of insurance companies saving their customers time and money.
Agency
Scale Marketing is primarily a media buying agency whose clients are mostly large regional companies in the Midwest with consumer facing advertising focus. Scale was working with Insure on the Spot to develop a flexible campaign to use long-term. They wanted something that could have widely variable executions but with a consistent creative hook.
Concept
Scale came to us with an idea we loved that they’d already worked with Insure on the Spot to develop. They planned to cast a spokesperson who would use visual effects tricks to show how easy and fast it was to save money on car insurance with Insure on the Spot. The script for the spots was essentially decided, but it was up to us to come up with the visual effects “tricks” to go along with it.
Campaign
This campaign has gone on for six years now! After the initial spots were done, Scale entrusted Jump Point to write and plan the spots from there on. The result has been more than a dozen :30 broadcast ads for the company, as well as ads shot specifically for social, and even a billboard campaign.
“Insure on the Spot has said multiple times recently that what they like about the campaign is that it's visually arresting. They like that it makes them stop what they are doing and pay attention.”
Pre-Production
For spots in this campaign, the pre-production process has often started with finding a location. Jump Point does all its own location scouting, finding thematic and eye-catching locations that help differentiate the spots and which will sometimes provide inspiration for the tricks.
Each shot in these spots also has a visual effect that requires a prop, specific lens, and specific time of the day to be shot. All those elements are meticulously planned before the shoot so that the visual effects play seamlessly in the edit.
Production
We normally shoot two spots in two days in locations in or around Chicago. With these spots the strategy we’ve developed is to use a relatively small crew with a fairly constrained shot plan so we can put the most resources possible into the visual effects work.
“Wow, I love it! My favorite one yet.”
Post-Production
Post-production on these spots has been handled 100% by Jump Point. The fact that our director is also our lead VFX artist is a huge advantage for our clients, and it’s allowed us to keep the cost surprisingly low for Scale and Insure on the Spot.
“Insure on the Spot loves the new spot, they’re very excited about it. Nice work you guys!”

Timeline
Overall the process from start to finish usually takes two and half months. Creative development and pre-production takes four weeks total, and post production takes six weeks.
